SameFooting
A suburban Texas bathroom mid-renovation: the shower wall stripped back to cement board, tile stacked on the floor, a notched trowel and a bucket of thinset in daylight.

Three bids for one bathroom.

One questionnaire. Every contractor you invite answers the same questions, so what each bid includes is on the page before you choose.

Guest bathroom remodel: three bids compared line by line

Line by line, the way the contractors wrote it

This is the whole bathroom, not a summary of it. Sixteen questions went out; these are eight of the answers. Nothing here is our opinion — it is what each contractor typed.

Nobody is hiding anything. Until somebody asked them the same questions, all three were “a bathroom”.

“Two coats” is not one thing

Two painters wrote the same sentence: paint the bedroom, two coats. Here is what the questionnaire asks them, and what each one answered.

Pick a question

How much primer?

Ramírez

One full coat of stain-blocking primer over the whole wall, and a second coat on the patches.

Hill Co.

Primer on the patched areas only.

Sanding between coats?

Ramírez

Scuff-sanded with 220 grit between coats, then vacuumed.

Hill Co.

Not included.

What about the old drips?

Ramírez

Runs and roller marks skimmed, sanded flat and spot-primed.

Hill Co.

Painted over as they are.

Which paint, exactly?

Ramírez

Named brand, line and sheen, written into the answer.

Hill Co.

Paint chosen by the contractor, sheen not specified.

One of these is a more complete job. Until somebody asked, both of them were just “two coats”.

How it works

Three screens, about ten minutes, and the contractors you already know.

  1. The questionnaire screen: sixteen questions grouped by section, with the contractor's form previewed beside them.

    1

    Describe your job

Your house and the work, in your own words. A house built in 1978 gets asked different things than one built in 2016.

16 questions, written for that job

  2. The invitation screen: a contractor, the jobs they are invited to, and the message ready to send.

    2

    Invite your contractors

By text message or email, by name. They open a link and answer from their phone, in English or Spanish, about drywall, tile and permits. No account, no app, no password.

    Answering costs nothing

  3. The job screen: the bid request, every contractor invited to it and what each one has answered so far.

    3

    Compare their answers

Every contractor on one screen, and the answers in one table with the same three states for everybody. What one of them leaves out shows up as a gap instead of as a lower number.

For contractors

Win on what you actually include

You have lost jobs to a lower number that covered less work. Here, that shows.

  • Your good work is visible

When the homeowner can see that you replace the supply lines and the other bid reuses them, the extra $3,000 stops being a mystery.

  • No account and no app

The homeowner invites you by name. You answer from your phone, in English or Spanish. Answering costs nothing, and we never sell your name as a lead.

  • Already wrote your estimate?

Bring it in. We read it and fill in what we can, so you answer less from scratch.

  • Scope in writing protects you too

The day someone says that wasn't what we agreed, the answers you gave are still there, with their date.

Detail isn't red tape. It's the difference between you and a number on a text message. See a bid request

What this is, and what it isn't

We help you understand bids. We do not perform, supervise or guarantee any work, and we never tell you which contractor to hire.

A written estimate should include a description of the work to be done, materials, completion date, and the price. Don't automatically choose the lowest bidder.

U.S. Federal Trade Commission

Nobody makes those estimates answer the same questions. That is the part we do.

No winner, ever
Every contractor gets the same treatment and the same column width. We never mark one as the best choice, and we never sort by price.
Private
Your house, your jobs and your bids are yours. A contractor only sees the job you invited them to.
By invitation
You bring your own contractors, the ones you already know. We have no network to sell you.
On the record
The bid you accept is kept exactly as it was answered, with its date, and cannot be edited afterwards. It is a reliable record of what was agreed, not a signed contract.

Questions people ask

Do my contractors have to sign up?
No. You invite them by text message or email. They open a link and answer from their phone, in English or Spanish. No account, no app, no password.
Do you pick the winner for me?
No. We show you what each bid includes and what it leaves out, in plain language. Sometimes the right answer is to pay more. You decide.
What does “not specified” mean?
That the contractor did not answer that question. It does not mean the work is excluded, and we never turn one into the other. If it matters, ask them — you can send the question from the comparison.
What does the AI actually do?
It writes the questions for your job and puts the answers into plain language. On permits, licenses and codes it asks questions rather than making statements, and it is not legal advice.
Is the accepted bid a contract?
No. It is a reliable record of what was answered and accepted, with its date, that cannot be edited afterwards. It does not replace a contract.
Who can see my house and my jobs?
Only you and the contractors you invite, and each of them only sees the job you invited them to. Nothing is sold or shared.
